PC-Rot Terminator® Epoxy Rotted Wood Hardener is for wood that has structural damage caused by insects or rot.

The mixture of resin and hardener produces a low viscosity liquid that penetrates the distressed wood and cures hard. PC-Rot Terminator® increases the density and strengthens wood. It is slow curing, allowing time for the liquid to deeply penetrate the wood. It can be used as a protective coating and to seal wood, concrete and masonry surfaces. It has zero solvents or volatiles, making it environmentally friendly and also suitable for interior applications.

WORKING TIME: 1-4 HOURS
CURE TIME: 3-7 DAYS

How to use PC-Rot Terminator®

Prep

Prepare your surface as best you can to ensure the best possible bond with PC-Rot Terminator®. Remove loose paint, wood fibres and debris with a stiff brush, sandpaper or scraper.

Wood should be fully dry. Wet or damp wood treated with a borate solution glycol based wood preservatives will decrease PC-Rot Terminator’s® ability to soak in. PC-Rot Terminator® does not displace water from inside damp wood. Ventilate the wet wood using a fan and if necessary safely warm with an infrared heat lamp to speed drying.

Painted surfaces must be drilled or sanded to expose the damaged wood. Drilling or poking holes in solid wood (minimum 3mm) will allow access and deeper penetration.

Vertical surfaces should be drilled on a downward angle (45 degree) with 3mm to 6mm (1/8 to ¼ inch) bit to access the wood grain.

PC-Rot Terminator® has a working time of approximately one hour, so ensure all preparatory sanding/drilling is completed prior to application.

If the project is outside please be mindful of the weather forecast. Best results are achieved when applying PC-Rot Terminator® at temperatures above 14°c. Do not apply in temperatures below 7°c or over 38°c.

Mixing

Depending on the size purchased, you will have two or three bottles. PC-Rot Terminator® is a one to two (1:2) ratio mix by volume. ONE part hardener to TWO parts resin.

For 3.25oz: Carefully pour the smaller hardener bottle into the larger resin bottle.

For 24oz: Note the fill lines marked on the empty mixing bottle. Carefully pour the hardener (A) to fill line A. Carefully pour the resin (B) to fill line B. The remainder of bottles A and B can be stored for future use.

Tightly secure the bottle cap and shake vigorously for one minute. Remove the small coloured cap and clip the tip of spout prior to using.

It is possible to reduce the viscosity of PC-Rot Terminator® using acetone, but it will lower the strength, slow down the cure and possibly cause shrinkage.

Dispense PC-Rot Terminator® directly from the mixing bottle to the damaged area. You may like to use a paintbrush to help work the liquid into any awkward areas or prevent excessive dripping on a vertical surface.

Apply PC-Rot Terminator® until the wood is fully saturated. Reapply until the wood cannot absorb more liquid. There is a limited time that PC-Rot Terminator® can penetrate before it begins to thicken so it is important to thoroughly soak the wood repeatedly to get the maximum hardening effect.

PC-Rot Terminator® has a working time of approximately one hour.

Tinting

Underwater & Wet Use

Clean Up

Clean up PC-Rot Terminator® with paper towels and solvent before it dries and/or cures. Methylated spirit, acetone, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or lacquer thinner are suitable solvents for removing uncured PC-Rot Terminator®. Cured PC-Rot Terminator® can be removed with paint stripper or remover.

For 24oz: Any leftover PC-Rot Terminator® in the mixing bottle will cure and cannot be removed. Fully empty and rinse the bottle if it is to be reused for further applications.

Finishing

PC-Rot Terminator® will be tack free in 1 day (at 21°c) and will reach full strength in 3-7 days (at 21°c). Do not allow the treated wood to be exposed to rain until the second treatment has fully dried. If necessary, tarp or plastic can be used to cover the area.

PC-Woody® can be applied after PC-Rot Terminator® has fully soaked in.

PC-Rot Terminator® can be drilled and painted after it has cured. For best results when painting, use a stain-blocking primer first.
